Since Friday 1 April 2022, vaccinations previously provided by GP practices have moved to the responsibility of NHS Lanarkshire.
For routine vaccinations such as pneumococcal and shingles, people will be contacted directly by NHS Lanarkshire when they become eligible. There is no need to contact GP practices.
Also included in the changes are specific vaccines needed for travel (excluding the covid-19 vaccine). These vaccines will be provided by community pharmacies and will continue to be free of charge for people who live in Lanarkshire or who are registered with a Lanarkshire GP practice.
Dr Mark Russell, Associate Medical Director, Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: “These changes are happening across all Scottish health boards as part of the GP contract. With travel restrictions easing more people are planning to travel to destinations around the world.
“It is important to know if you need specific vaccines for the country you are visiting and how long before travel you need to receive them.”
The vaccines available through community pharmacies are:
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A and typhoid combined
- Cholera
- Revaxis (polio / diphtheria / tetanus)
Some travellers may need vaccines and anti-malarials which are not provided free of charge through this NHS service. Pharmacies may provide this additional service, however there will be a charge for it.
