Frequently Asked Questions – Updated 7 September 2023

What is Care Opinion?

Care Opinion is an online platform that provides a space for patients, service users, families, and unpaid carers to share their experiences and feedback about health and social care services. It allows individuals to submit personal stories about their interactions with providers, facilities, and services.

How does Care Opinion work?

  • Feedback Submission:
People share their experiences by submitting stories on the Care Opinion platform. These stories highlight aspects of their health and care journey, such as the quality of care, communication, waiting times, facilities, and overall satisfaction.
  • Story Publication:
Once submitted and after rigorous moderation from the Care Opinion team, these stories are published on the Care Opinion website. The stories are anonymised to protect privacy while maintaining the authenticity of the feedback.
  • Interactive Dialogue:
Health and social care providers have the opportunity to respond to these stories publicly. This interactive dialogue fosters transparent communication and enables providers to address concerns, offer explanations, and express gratitude.

Why is Care Opinion important to health and social care staff?

  • Insightful Feedback:
Care Opinion provides a unique window into the patient and service user experience, offering valuable insights that help health and care staff understand their services from the person’s perspective.
  • Quality Improvement:
By listening to patient stories, health and care staff can identify areas for improvement. Feedback can guide changes to processes, policies, and practices that enhance the overall quality of care.
  • Enhanced Communication:
Engaging with patient stories and responding to them publicly demonstrates commitment to open communication and person-centered care. This builds trust and fosters positive relationships between patients and staff.
  • Learning and Reflection:
Reading patient narratives allows health and social care staff to reflect on their interactions and experiences. It encourages self-improvement and continuous learning, leading to more compassionate and effective care.
  • Performance Recognition:
Positive stories can highlight exceptional care and dedicated staff members.
  • Empowerment and Ownership:
Engaging with feedback empowers staff to take ownership of the care they provide. It encourages them to actively contribute to the betterment of services based on real-world experiences.
  • Person-Centered Approach:
Embracing patient feedback as a valuable resource supports a patient-centered approach. This approach aligns with the goal of tailoring health and social care services to meet individual needs and preferences.
