Captain Chaos’ collection for clinicians

Oct 2, 2020

Captain Chaos handed over a huge cheque to thank staff at University Hospital Monklands.

The seven-year-old wrestling fan, also known as Caelan McFaulds, received treatment for a leg injury at the hospital during lockdown.

He decided that he wanted to give back to the doctors and nurses who looked after him; while working hard throughout lockdown and helping patients struggling with Coronavirus.

Caelan, who is from Airdrie, said: “I like to raise money for the NHS so I wrote a book so Coronavirus could go away.”

Kind-hearted Caelan wrote a book called ‘The Main Event of WrestleMania’ during lockdown. With help from his dad Stevie, he started to sell copies to raise money to thank the staff who cared for him.

He set out to raise £500 but his final total was well over four times this amount, raising a massive £2373.

The money raised will certainly go a long way to help the doctors and nurses. The funds will be used to enhance the facilities at staff wellbeing and rest areas at the hospital.

Dad Stevie said: “Calaen’s main goal was to thank those heroes working on the frontline while everyone else was safe at home, especially those who looked after him.

“My wife, Zara and I are extremely proud of Caelan and everything he has done – writing his book and raising this fantastic sum for all the nurses and the staff at Monklands Hospital. I am sure they will put it to good use.

“Hopefully, when Caelan is a superstar wrestler, he can donate even more out of his pay cheques.”

Caelan’s fundraising effort has seen him make some famous friends along the way. With WWE legend Triple H and WWE champion Drew McIntrye, a fellow Scot, getting in touch with him with messages of support.

Drew McIntyre has continued to send Caelan advice as he pursues his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Caelan is so determined that he and his dad travel to Fife every week to take part in wrestling training.

Margaret Meek, Director of Hospital Services at University Hospital Monklands, said: “It is always very humbling when people we cared for, and their families, do something to thank us.

“Caelan is the youngest person I am aware of who has written a book to raise funds. He is clearly a kind and caring young man. If he ever decides wrestling isn’t for him, we would welcome at Team Monklands when he is older.”
