Emergency Department (A&E)

A&E or calling 999 is for emergencies only. If you suspect your condition is an emergency, such as if you have had a severe injury, suspect you are at immediate risk of a heart attack or stroke, or you are experiencing breathing difficulties or severe bleeding, call 999 immediately.

Do I need to attend A&E?

If you think you may need to go to A&E, but your condition is not life-threatening, please call NHS 24 on 111 , where highly trained call handlers will ensure you access the right care in the right place. You will be asked to visit A&E if your symptoms need urgent medical treatment.
