South Lanarkshire Integration Joint Board (IJB) has published its Annual Performance Report for 2023/24, highlighting how collaboration with partners, the workforce and local communities is at the heart of its approach to improving health and wellbeing across South Lanarkshire.
With a particular focus on protecting and supporting those most at risk and living with vulnerability, the report demonstrates the IJB’s commitment to delivering joined-up, person-centred care – even in the face of workforce pressures, financial constraints and rising demand.
This year’s refreshed report format brings together statutory data, strategic progress and lived experience. A key feature is the inclusion of short films featuring service users, frontline staff and service managers – powerfully illustrating the impact of integrated services. One such example is the holistic end of life care Susan Boyle received, as her mother and brother shared their experience of giving Susan the best quality of life with the help of the nursing team so she could receive early palliative care at home.
Councillor Margaret Walker, Chair of the South Lanarkshire IJB, said: “This report is a testament to the dedication and compassion of our staff, partners and communities.
“Despite the increasingly complex environment in which we operate, our teams have remained focused on delivering value and driving improvement for those most at risk and living with vulnerability. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and for the insights and support from our communities.”
Lesley McDonald, Vice Chair of the South Lanarkshire IJB added: “As we look ahead, we do so with determination and a profound sense of responsibility to make the best use of the resources available to improve the lives of people across South Lanarkshire.
“Our robust governance arrangements and disciplined financial stewardship ensure that resources are directed where they are needed most, supporting those who are most vulnerable.”
Professor Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer of the South Lanarkshire IJB, commented: “This year’s Annual Performance Report not only reflects our achievements under challenging circumstances but also sets out our blueprint for the future.
“By combining insight, evidence and lived experience, we are making responsible decisions grounded in realism and focused on securing the best outcomes for the people of South Lanarkshire. Our commitment to innovation, collaboration and transparency will help ensure our health and social care system remains resilient and responsive.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to these short films, including Susan’s family for sharing her powerful story, recognising the passion and commitment that drives our teams and the real impact our staff make every day.
I am also deeply grateful to all our services and to our partners for their outstanding work and dedication as well as the local communities for their ongoing support for the work we do on their behalf.”
