To provide an overview of the data around the population’s weight in Lanarkshire; the health impacts, costs, and highlight what we are doing to improve healthy weight locally.

Maternal body mass index (BMI) at antenatal booking

Public health Scotland reports on maternity services affected by obesity and diabetes. Data files are available on birth weight, BMI and diabetes.

Primary 1 Body Mass Index (BMI) statistics Scotland School year 2023 to 2024

Public Health Scotland (PHS) provides statistics on high, low and healthy body mass index (BMI) for Primary 1 school children (those aged around 5 years old). Statistics in this release are derived from height and weight measurements collected at health reviews in Primary 1.

Public Health Scotland presents data on measures related to breastfeeding and early child development in Scotland. This includes exclusive breastfeeding; overall breastfeeding; and ‘ever breastfed’, based on data collected at Health Visitor reviews at 10-14 days and 6-8 weeks; and developmental concerns based on data collected at reviews at 13-15 months, 27-30 months and 4-5 years.

For all measures data are presented for each Health Board and Council Area of Residence (based on home postcode). Additional data is presented in this release showing breakdowns by developmental domain at Health Board and Council Area level.

Public Health Scotland (PHS) report on the burden of disease attributed to physical inactivity in Scotland. The report includes a table for relative risks in relation to inactivity, the number of deaths attributable to physical inactivity, by NHS board and local council area, Age standardised mortality (ASM) rates attributable to physical inactivity, by NHS board and local council area, number of years of life lost attributable to physical inactivity, by disease and activity level category, number of years lived with disability attributable to physical inactivity, by disease and activity level category, Number of disability adjusted life years (DALYs) attributable to physical inactivity, by disease and activity level category, Age standardised disability adjusted life year rates attributable to physical inactivity, by NHS board and council area.

The Scottish Health survey

The Scottish health survey reports on diet, vitamins supplements, food insecurity and physical activity, providing information on the health and factors relating to health of the people living in Scotland through current and previous reports Scottish Health Survey – gov.scot.

The dashboard Scottish Health Survey provides key indicators for Scotland that can be broken down to NHS health boards and local authority level. Maps are also available, providing a good visual aide, these can be filtered by time, topic, indicator, geographical area and sex.
