Healthcare staff and volunteers from across NHS Lanarkshire were recognised for the inspirational work they do at the Staff Awards ceremony 2023.

The ceremony, which took place at South Lanarkshire Council’s banqueting hall in Hamilton, saw staff being recognised under seven categories.

The categories included: Care and Compassion, Innovation and Improvement, Collaboration, Volunteering, Chair’s Award, Chief Executive Award and the William Cullen Prize.

Jann Gardner, Chief Executive for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “All finalists for this year’s awards were of an outstanding level and are an indication of the incredible team we have here in Lanarkshire.

“It was fantastic to see so many staff and volunteers being recognised for the excellent service they provide to the people of Lanarkshire on a daily basis. Being involved in the award ceremony on the day made me incredibly proud to work for this organisation.”

The winner of the Award for Care and Compassion is South Community Nursing Teams – End of Life Care. The award was presented by sponsor Katrina Murray, Branch Secretary, Unison Lanarkshire Branch. Finalists were The Healthy Lifestyle in Pregnancy Team and the Psychological Services Staff Support Team.

The winner of the Award for Innovation and Improvement was the Pre-Operative Assessment Team (Pan Lanarkshire). The award was presented by Sylvia Stewart, Branch Chair, Unite The Union, Lanarkshire Health Branch. Finalists for the category were the TP Prostate Biopsy Team and UHH Team Peri-Op.

The William Cullen Award was presented by Dr Alison Falconer, Consultant Physician, NHS Lanarkshire and Council Member of The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

The William Cullen Prize was created in 2016 to recognise excellence in teaching or service innovation at a regional level. The winners were Dr Gillian Mulholland, Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist and Dr Amanda Armstrong, Consultant in Acute Medicine.

The winner of the Award for Collaboration is Dr. Doug Lyall and the Hospital Eye Team. The award was presented by award sponsor Anne Quinn, Director, NHS Staff Benefits/PSSB Ltd.

Finalists for the category were the Sexual Health Team and Alexandra Harden and the Covid Rehabilitation Team.

The judges identified two winners for the Award for Volunteering. The winners were Lorna Colquhoun and Robert Bogan. Mr Bogan’s award was accepted by a family friend, Linda Craig. The award was presented by Liz Airns, GMB Branch Secretary Lanarkshire.

The winner of the Chief Executive Award was David Murray and the orthopaedic team. They were presented their award by Chief Executive Jann Gardner.

The winner of the Chair Award was the Addictions psychology service. They were presented their award by Chair Martin Hill.
