NHS Lanarkshire logo and 75 years of the NHS

After months of research, creative design and public voting, the new Lanarkshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) logo has been officially chosen.

Following an extensive four-month research and design process, the modern heart-shaped logo was chosen following a vote by patients, parents, and the public.

The service worked closely with art and design students at New College Lanarkshire in Cumbernauld to design a vibrant and engaging logo that reflects the modern CAMHS service.

Eight designs were shortlisted as part of the competition and the winning logo will be used on all communications and signage.

The winning logo, created by Maria Crawford, captivated the hearts and minds of those involved in the selection process. Its contemporary design captures the essence of CAMHS while reflecting the surrounding woodland around the newly opened £1.5 million outpatient service.

Pauline Izat, general manager, Specialist Children’s Health Services Unit, Health & social Care North Lanarkshire, expressed her excitement about the new logo, emphasising its connection to the natural surroundings of the facility. She said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the logo selection process.

“Good mental health is a crucial aspect of children and young peoples’ wellbeing, and we believe that our new logo will help to raise awareness and inspire positive change.

“The students’ designs were outstanding, and Maria’s creation stood out as the perfect representation of our modern approach to mental health care.

“Maria’s logo beautifully reflects the woodland ambiance around our recently opened outpatient service. It is both contemporary and refreshing, truly capturing the essence of the positive environment we aim to create for our patients.

“This collaboration between Lanarkshire CAMHS and the art and design students at New College Lanarkshire has proven to be a hugely successful partnership, showcasing the tremendous talent present within our local communities.

“Our work together not only promotes the creative growth of the students but also contributes to enhancing the visual identity of Lanarkshire CAMHS, enabling us to connect better with our patients and wider public.

“The unveiling of the new logo marks an exciting chapter for Lanarkshire CAMHS, as it signifies our commitment to modernity, innovation, and patient-centric care.“

Maria Crawford, designer of the winning design, said: “I wanted to reflect the fact that the heart isn’t perfect and for the colours to represent people as individuals who are brought together surrounded by love.

“When we were given the brief, I focused on things that inspire me. I researched the colours I wanted to use as they all represent positive emotions such as strength, positivity and love. Then I came up with 4-5 initial designs, before choosing the design I wanted to submit.

“It feels unbelievable to be chosen as the winning design and it’s nice that it’s going to be used as the logo for such a worthwhile service. It’s lovely to think that it will be the new logo and it is replacing the old logo which wasn’t as welcoming.”

Sandra Ord, HNC course team leader, New College Lanarkshire, added: “It’s been great for all of us on the course being involved in a project that makes a real difference; that’s the epitome of graphic design.

“This has been an excellent real world experience for the students and they’ve really embraced it. They definitely rose to the occasion and I’m so proud of all of them. They really pushed themselves hard and did a great job.”

The new logo unveiling comes a month after the new specialist outpatient facility was officially opened by Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport.

The state-of-the-art facility, hosted by Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, assesses and treats young people up to 18 years old with emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties.
