Children, young people and their families can now take part in NHS Lanarkshire’s new specially designed physical activity videos, from the comfort of their own home.
Developed with sport and physical activity coaches from North Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture, they aim to support local families with fun and engaging exercises that are short, simple and effective.
There are nine videos in total that don’t require any gym equipment for:
- Early years to primary three
- Primary four to primary seven
- Aged 12+
Marc Conroy, health improvement senior, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We had great fun making these videos, and hope the children, young people and families taking part enjoy them too!
“There are three videos per age range, lasting no longer than twenty minutes, consisting of simple home workouts and expert support which don’t require you to leave the living room.
“Any amount of exercise helps improve our mental and physical health, and I would encourage families to get involved and see the benefits for the whole family.”
Mel Menzies, health and wellbeing manager, North Lanarkshire Council, said: “This is a brilliant, fun and innovative way to engage children and young people. It’s a really positive opportunity for people to take part in physical activity in their own home at a time that suits them. It also provides a great stepping stone to lots of other physical activity and sporting initiatives available across Lanarkshire.”
Ryan Gilmour, senior health development officer, South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture, commented: “This project provides extra opportunities for children and young people to stay physically active, whilst at the same time learning new ways to exercise and more importantly, have fun!”
