NHS Lanarkshire thanks flu clinic staff for their continued hard work

Dec 1, 2020

Since the start of this year’s flu vaccination programme, staff across NHS Lanarkshire have continued to worked tirelessly to vaccinate more than 200,000 people. This is more than in the entire programme last year.

Comparison with last year:

Group 2019/20 2020/21
2 – 5 (not in school) 44.4% 56.1%
At risk 39.6% 48.3%
Over 65s 71.5% 80.7%

Val de Souza, Director Health and Social Care, South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “I would like to thank all of the staff involved in delivering this year’s flu programme. It has been a phenomenal effort to get so many people vaccinated in a short period of time, and in such challenging circumstances.

“Our staff have delivered Lanarkshire’s biggest flu programme in the middle of a global pandemic. They’ve ensured our clinics are covid-safe, offered reassurance to those who were feeling anxious, while making sure the most vulnerable members of our community were vaccinated.

“This year the flu programme hasn’t been without its challenges, however these were resolved and allowed us to vaccinate people as quickly and safely as possible. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we addressed those issues.”

If you are eligible and haven’t received an appointment for your flu vaccination, you can now contact us directly to book.

The priority groups eligible for the flu vaccination in phase one are:

  • Everyone aged under 65 who is ‘at-risk’ (information on at-risk conditions is available at nhsinform.scot/flu)
  • Everyone aged 65 and over (your 65th birthday must be before 31 March 2021)
  • People who have been shielding and members of their households
  • Young and unpaid carers

To request an appointment, call 01698 687456 (Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.15pm) or email FluRebookingAppointments@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk with your name, address, date of birth and telephone number (preferably a mobile number).

This does not apply to 2 to 5 year olds not in school, as we are still scheduling appointments for this group.

Ms de Souza added: “We would like to offer reassurance that our clinics are safe to visit and attending for your flu vaccination is an important appointment to keep. Our staff continue to work hard to vaccinate everyone who is eligible and wants to receive the vaccine.”
