NHS Lanarkshire is reporting no new confirmed cases of pupils testing positive for Covid-19 following today’s incident management team meeting.

Dr Josephine Pravinkumar, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine, said: “We would like to reassure the local community there is currently no evidence of transmission in schools or nurseries and that appropriate measures are being implemented.

“Individuals should stay off nursery, school or work and get tested if they or their close contacts experience any Covid-19 symptoms, such as a cough, fever or loss of taste or smell, even if they are mild.

“We want to take this opportunity to remind people of measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19. These include physical distancing and regular handwashing.”

To access guidance on Covid testing for you or your child and to book a Covid test if you or your child have symptoms, please go to www.nhsinform.scot/testing. You can call 0800 028 2816 if you can’t access the test form on-line or need help to complete it.

Please do not call NHS Lanarkshire, 111 or your GP as they can’t organise tests or give out test results.

Our previous press releases are available here and include further details and advice for parents and pupils.

The incident management team continues to meet. To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be released at this time.

Care home visiting

NHS Lanarkshire is not able to reintroduce indoor visiting in Lanarkshire care homes at this time.

Indoor visiting could be reinstated from 24 August across Scotland if safe to do so. However, it is important that these plans are considered in the context of local community prevalence of Covid-19 and any increase in new infections. NHS Lanarkshire has considered these issues locally, in conjunction with the Health Protection Team, and due to concern about the development of cases and clusters in Lanarkshire, and elsewhere, we are not able to reintroduce indoor visiting in Lanarkshire care homes at this time.

Indoor visiting for end-of-life care or to support a resident’s wellbeing at times of distress can continue, as long as all infection prevention and control measures are in place, including appropriate use of PPE. Outdoor visiting can also continue. The matter will be kept under review. All care homes in Lanarkshire have received a letter to advise them of this decision.
