Depending on the type of operation you are having and your general health, your admission to the hospital will be either:
- As a Day Surgery patient and you will go home on the same day as your operation
- As a Same-Day Surgery patient when you come into the hospital on the same day as your operation and stay in hospital afterwards to recover
- As an Inpatient admission, when you come into hospital the day before your operation and stay in hospital afterwards to recover
What is Day Surgery?
The Day Surgery Unit provides a service where you can have your operation, procedure or investigation carried out and be allowed home on the same day. Many surgical procedures, which are relatively brief, are carried out in this way.
Although we aim to get you home from the hospital on the same day, this is dependent on your recovery. You may require an extended recovery period or overnight stay.
