Tertiary Eating Disorder Specialist Service (TESS)
Who are we?
The Tertiary Eating Disorder Specialist Service (TESS) provides a Lanarkshire wide specialist service to adults (18+) with severe eating disorders (primarily Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa) resulting in complex needs, and to young people with eating disorders who would benefit from an early intervention approach (age 18+).
TESS is dedicated to providing effective, individualised and evidence-based care to all individuals accessing the service. Given the complex relationship of mental and physical health issues in individuals with eating disorders, most patients will receive close multidisciplinary working. The team consists of clinical staff from a range of disciplines, including Psychology; Psychiatry; GP; Therapy; Dietetics; Nursing; Occupational Therapy; and Assistant Practitioner.
The ethos of the service is wherever possible, and where safe enough to do so, to work with clients in the community. The team also have the ability to provide intensive community interventions (‘hospital at home’).
Whilst the majority of work is focused on active treatment, it is recognised that there is a significant minority that will have severe and enduring difficulties. TESS offers various approaches for these individuals with the aim of optimising physical safety and enhancing quality of life.
Accessing the Service
Access to this service is by referral only. Referrals must come from a General Practitioner (GP) or another qualified health or social care professional who is currently involved in supporting you. This helps ensure that the service is appropriate for your needs and that relevant background information can be shared to support your care.
If you think accessing support for your eating difficulties may be helpful to you, please speak with your GP or another professional involved in your care about making a referral to the most appropriate service your behalf.
