Community Safety Indicators

The site provides an interactive tool to set and compare key indicators within North and South Lanarkshire. Covering data of drug crimes, attempted murder and serious assault, breach of the peace, vandalism, driving under the influence. Child related data on children looked after by local authority, children on the protection register, referred to the children’s reporter for care and protection, unintentional injuries under 5’s, young people living in the most crime deprived quintile 0-25 years and young people aged 15-25 admitted to hospital due to assault.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Data

Two official statistics produced annually, one on incident statistics, including the types of fires by local authority area; the other on fire safety and organisation statistics, for example crew models.

Police Scotland Data

The official statistics on crimes and offences recorded by the police in Scotland can be found here:

Recorded crime in Scotland – gov.scot the annual reports have Scotland-wide data and some reporting at Local Authority level.

Police Scotland’s performance data, for example how quickly respond to 999 calls, can be found via: How we are performing – Police Scotland  – these are classed as ‘management information only’.

Road Safety and Community Safety Mapping Tools

Data can be found for North and South Lanarkshire on:

Road Safety data maps are available at THINK Map – THINK!  & CrashMap – UK Road Safety Map. These interactive maps provide data that can be filtered down to a specific area, time, casualty type and severity, and outside conditions. CrashMap provides a more detailed report, advanced query options, route analysis, and print options are available at a cost.

CRESH maps also provide useful information relevant to Lanarkshire, particularly in relation to alcohol availability and its impact on community safety, health inequalities, and crime.

Through interactive mapping tools, Creshmap highlights:

  • Alcohol outlet density
  • Its correlation with:
  • Health harms
  • Crime rates
  • Deprivation

North Lanarkshire

Police Scotland & Scottish Fire and Rescue Service - North Lanarkshire Performance Reports

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service contributes non-domestic fire safety data to the Community Safety Partnership Forum. This data—covering areas such as accidental dwelling fires and casualties, unintentional injury and harm, deliberate fire-setting, and non-domestic fire safety. It is updated biannually in June and December.

Police Scotland provides quarterly performance reports aligned with the Local Policing Plan, focusing on citizen safeguarding, service enhancement, and building public confidence. These reports, produced at the local authority level, are intended for management purposes. For national-level insights, refer to the Crime Statistics in Scotland available through the Scottish Police Authority.

North Lanarkshire Community Safety

North Lanarkshire Council has launched a refreshed Community Safety Strategy 2025-30 aimed at tackling crime and antisocial behaviour through a collaborative, integrated approach, the  report is available for download at the bottom of the linked page: New community safety strategy to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour | North Lanarkshire Council

North Lanarkshire Council addresses community safety through a range of initiatives, including CCTV monitoring, tackling anti-social behaviour, and ensuring public protection within housing services. For more details on them visit: Community safety | North Lanarkshire Council)

These efforts are reflected in performance reporting, which includes:

  • Measures of success
  • Anti-social behavior and homelessness service call handling
  • Out-of-hours service

Scotland level data

Scottish Crime and Justice Survey – Scotland Wide Data

Asks people about their experiences and feelings related to crime, statistics are on a Scotland basis, not broken down by local authority. Questions include, proportion of adults who thought issues such as drug dealing and drug abuse were common in their area, proportion of adults who felt safe alone in their home at night.

Water Incident Database – National Water Safety Forum

Provides reports on water related fatalities, but at a Scotland level.
